Those who know me well, know that I am a fan of the Krampus. But chances are, if you don't know me all that well, you probably have never heard of him.
So here's a quick summary:
This is the Krampus. He's kind of a beastly creature, who comes to us from Germanic folklore. You know how at Christmastime, bad kids get coal? Well, bad kids in Austria, Romania, Solevenia, etc etc don't get coal, they get visited by Krampus, who terrorize them and sometimes drag them home with him!
Krampus is kind of like St. Nicholas's sidekick. In fact, the night before St Nick's day, the Krampus runs through the streets, taking care of the bad kids so St. Nicholas knows which kids deserve presents.
To this day, adults dress up in Krampus costumes and run through the streets of Vienna, scaring kids!
You see depictions of the Krampus in a lot of Victorian illustrations. This is how I first found out about him. I think he's so funny, that basically it was love at first sight.
My mom doesn't like that I like him, though. She says he's too scary!
This illustration is my favorite - Krampus is so mean, he steals the oranges from cute little Campbell's Soup kids!
Here's a few examples of how Krampus has appeared in my personal life:
So, after all of this, it was necessary to create Krampus items for the shop. They're available now!
Get them before Krampus gets YOU!
