Doodle Tuesday: Vikings

Brian Ness

This week's Doodle Tuesday was inspired by those great midcentury viking statues that I love to find at vintage stores. When I was a kid, the barber we visited had them lined up at his station, and I always thought their little personas were so fun!

Here are a couple more viking finds from etsy:

Doodle Tuesday: Wedding Edition

Brian Ness

There's a lot going on over here!

1. I have my merchandise in 1 additional location in Minneapolis: Carver Junk Company! This store is adorable. If you are around the 48th and Chicago area, you must stop in!

2. Another one on the way (stay tuned!)

3. We threw a lovely brunch for our dear friend, Paula and...

4. We are prepping for our trip to Europe to celebrate her wedding!

5. More family weddings happening

6. And OUR wedding is around the corner!

Needless to say, it was tough to fit in some doodling this week, so I thought I'd share one of the drawings that I made for our wedding invites.

Here she is:

When we first started planning our wedding, I knew I wanted to add some hand-drawn illustrations to some of the stationery and decor. I first made a gouache painting that we have used for a few of our materials. It looks like this:

And this is how we used it on our Save the Dates (I needed them to be just a little bit weird)

When we picked a reception venue, I knew I had to make some slight alterations with the surface design to tie it all together a little more. Our venue, The Copper Hen, has this incredible blue and white toile wallpaper throughout the space, so I decided to redraw the flowers in the same style.

More blue and white illustrations will show up on the day, but I won't spoil all the surprises yet!

Doodle Tuesday: 4 Grecian Urns

Brian Ness

You remember that great scene from The Music Man? When the ladies perform their Grecian Urn poses? As a Kid I always loved that scene, and oftentimes would recreate it in the living room.

I guess I was a weird kid.

Anyway, I am still on this Greek kick, and it inhabited today's Doodle Tuesday!

Here are a few items that I found on Etsy that fit the theme:

Doodle Tuesday: Busy Bellboy

Brian Ness

It's been a busy couple of weeks, but I am trying to find balance and still do the things I love. Taking a minute or two to doodle is definitely one of those things!

Here's this week's doodle. It was inspired by this Bellboy card holder that Jon gave me for my birthday. it sits next to my computer and I see it the entire time I draw. I love him.

It wasn't quite intentional, but the style almost looks like it could have come from an old Annie comic!

Here are a couple of great etsy finds that are similar!

Doodle Tuesday: Like Old Times

Brian Ness

I've been fascinated with old Greek and Roman sculpture, vase paintings and mosaics, and I love sketching the depictions of people and animals. I am even more interested in that sort of midcentury Toga Party take on the classics! That's what inspired today's Doodle Tuesday. Maybe these images might end up on some future crafts!

Here are a couple other listings on etsy that I found that fit the theme:
